automotive engineering

Modern automotive engineering is a branch of vehicle engineering, incorporating elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software and safety engineering as applied to the design, manufacture and operation of motorcycles, automobiles, buses and trucks and their respective engineering subsystems.

hello :) asked: "umm.. what is automotive engineeringhow many years will it take to become oneand what is the salary"
Question posted courtesy of:
college prof with hard classes replied: "Automotive engineering is a hybrid of several other, less specific engineering disciplines. Its purpose is to further the development and production of transportation vehicles (cars, trucks, trains, planes, etc.), as well as to advance all forms of automotive technology. Although primarily a subset of mechanical engineering, it includes significant aspects of electrical, manufacturing, industrial and materials engineering. Most engineers working in the automotive industry have a BS degree in one of the disciplines mentioned above. This typically requires four to five years of full-time study to complete, and entry-level salaries are now running around $55k/year."
Jane R asked: "I have been looking everywhere, on what programs i need to take to start an automotive engineering education- i just need help on where to start"

dadhichi s replied: "i think after ur higher school education in science...u go for enggineering.. in automoblile field...!!if ur tryin hard....n want to do engg.. in the best institues of the world like iit;s u need to start preparing for tht exams... much early...!!"
socalguy replied: "First: Are you willing to live in Detroit, MI? It's an ugly city, and very cold in the winter. If you want to work in automotive engineering, you'll have to move to Detroit. It's prety much a requirement to work in the field. If you're ok with the location, then pick a field of engineering (mechanical or electrical engineering) and get into a good university (the closer to Detroit the better). Universities near Detroit often have specialties in automotive engineering.Keep your grades up and try to get an internship prior to graduation. Once you get your BSME or BSEE, you can apply for jobs with automakers in Detroit, MI. Maybe your internship will even turn into a job.Good undergraduate grades are a requirement to get into a decent master's program. You should get a master's degree too. It will make you more competitive in the marketplace (easier to get the job you want). After you work a few years in Detroit, you might be lucky enough to land a job in a nicer part of the country, but probably not. Good luck."
Eyad E replied: "go to cllege, then university, work as a supervisor is that fine"
Corey M asked: "any part of automotive engineering e.gmechanic all the way to the designing"
Question posted courtesy of:
LabTech replied: "Maths and Physics are essential for any form of engineering. Computing would be very useful, and Design Technology would also come in very handy."
rayce asked: "I am wanting to join a professional body organisation, but I am not sure I have all the reasons to or not to. I am in the engineering field as designer for child safety inbuilt car seats."
Question posted courtesy of:
ama replied: "cos that gives them access to all standards in the fieldthats true for all mechiesyou goota have them if u wanna designplus that way they contribute their own knowledge to that body hence helping it expand"
jareihart replied: "for the same reason you want to wine about what you are "wanting"...people are weird!!!if you want to join then join....if you don't then don'ttomarrow you can ask " why were you givin life""
P D replied: "To stay abreast of new developments and to learn about new techniques and discoveries."
northfielder24 asked: "I would like to work at Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman or do auto engineering with GM or supercar companies."
Question posted courtesy of:
Wayne W replied: "The University of Central Florida has a very strong relationship with Lockheed Martin. It probably helps that there are two LM facilities in Orlando, as well as the Space Coast being only a few miles away. UCF also has an Industrial Engineering research program involving high performance race engine building, in partnership with NASCAR, if that's more your speed.Aside from that, I'd check out Kettering University in Michigan. Every student is given the opportunity to co-op with some of the best companies in the world."

Everything’s getting tiny. The once-sexy V8 engine is now an automotive pariah while the Smart Car gets all the chicks; HD video cameras are now damn near Twinkie-size, and we’ll probably be implanting the next-generation iPod in our molars.

OK, not everyone will have access to a McLaren F1 and a Vauxhall Prince Henry might be a bit of a struggle, but in our opinion these are fifty examples of automotive engineering and styling that you really should try to drive before your licence expires, or before the greens and the government kill them off (whichever comes first).
