job salary

A job description is a list of the general tasks, or functions, and responsibilities of a position. Typically, it also includes to whom the position reports, specifications such as the qualifications needed by the person in the job, salary range for the position, etc. A job description is usually developed by conducting a job analysis, which includes examining the tasks and sequences of tasks necessary to perform the job. The analysis looks at the areas of knowledge and skills needed by the job. Note that a role is the set of responsibilities or expected results associated with a job. A job usually includes several roles.

rforrevenge asked: "Do u think 50K-60K is a good starting salary for someone's first job in engineering?"
Question posted courtesy of:
Cica replied: "OH, Yes!!! I think it's a great salary for someone's FIRST job in engineering!"
Earl D replied: "Oh yes."
Jazy asked: "After learning what the job entails in total from a co-worker that actually has the position I'm going for-I asked for too low of a salary. I have my final interview coming up. How would I ever ask them to increase it? I don't want them to think I'm trying to pull something, and I'm sure they won't bother offering what the jobs salary really is if I asked for less. Help!"

heckenhocker replied: "At the final interview, you could highlight you now understand that the job has a wider scope than you originally understood. Emphasis you are still interested and feel you can deliver in the job (it'll really allow me to show my strengths in blah). But don't directly ask for more at that stage. Wait for the offerThat'll let them know you now see the job differently and set up a reason for them to give you a better offer. And if the offer is low, it gives you an opening to ask for more..."as I mentioned at final interview, now understand job better, would expect X for that role"good luck!"
Don replied: "First you have to get the job, so I wouldn't bring this up at the interview. If the job is offered simply respond that upon further research you realized how much more responsibility the job entails and feel that $---- would be a more equitable base.Good Luck."
florida gal replied: "That is a tough one, but if you truly feel and have back up to prove the job is below the average salary for that position then have that material with you for the final interview. Tell them that after doing much research you realize it is low compensation and you feel it deems higher evaluation of wages."
shadow asked: "I was asked to compile information for my mom. She's up for review and long overdue for a pay increase. I need some websites with salary information to prove that she's in need of a raise. She has several job titles and has been with the company for over 10 years in the IT department. Can anyone help me?"

Maximus replied: "I work as a technical recruiter in NY which essentially means I fill technical jobs for fortune 500 firms. I can tell you from experience that job titles don't mean much. In any salary increase negotiation you need to focus on how your role has changed, how much more reponsibility you've taken on and how you've managed to increase productivity. If your looking for salary information, you can check some of the job boards such as monster.com or hotjobs.com But tell your mom to be careful b/c her bosses might feel like she's threatening to leave and they may feel that since she's got one foot out the door to show her all the way out. Hope this helps, good luck!"
izzymon06 replied: "Try Salary.com. You can get info from here that is generalized or pay to get it personalized."

d d asked: "I am employed with no other income source. I tried file my tax return for 2007, but this year, Turbotax says I have over $1000 of tax bill, and over $100 of state tax bill. No job&salary change for this year. I just don't get it."
Question posted courtesy of:
Jesse C replied: "If you had any significant purchases, that affects your tax rate. Also, taxes do not stay consistent every year. Tax law changes all the time-that is why Turbotax must come out with a new version every year. Suggestion: go see a human being. A tax professional cannot be substituted by a computer program-at least not yet. Oh-and you better hurry. If you haven't already filed your taxes, that is. If you have, get in touch with a tax prep company like H&R Block and have them help you review your return and file an amended return if necessary."
bostonianinmo replied: "Without seeing your tax returns from last year and this year side-by-side as well as a LOT more information there's no possible way to say. At the most basic level, you owe because you didn't have enough tax witheld from your wages or pay in enough in estimated taxes if you're self-employed.There have not been any significant tax law changes between tax years 2006 and 2007 that would affect the typical wage earner. That means that something on YOUR end MUST have changed. Did you change your withholding allowances on your W-4 at your work?"
jay78_er asked: "I want to know if any of you guys know any websites that will tell you the salary of a particular job."
Question posted courtesy of:
WoodsinAZ replied: "Salary.com has almost any job. The numbers are determined by statistical analysis and recovering of actual numbers."
Ice Queen replied: "I agree and have used Salary.com many times when needing to know the salary of a job I was applying for. It will give you the salary for every type of position in all areas of the country."
