Online dating
or
Internet dating
is an example of a dating system and allows individuals, couples and groups to meet online and possibly develop a romantic or sexual relationship. Net dating services provide un-moderated matchmaking through the use of personal computers, the Internet, or even cell phones.
Such services generally allow people to provide personal information, then search for other individuals using criteria such as age range, gender and location. Most sites allow members to upload photos of themselves and browse the photos of others. Sites may offer additional services, such as webcasts, online chat, and message boards. Sites sometimes allow people to register for free but may offer services which require a monthly fee.
Many sites are broad-based, with members from a variety of backgrounds looking for different types of relationships. Other sites are more specific, based on the type of members, interests, location, or relationship desired.

"How can we generate revenue with a free online dating service website? This website would target particular universities. How may we attract people to advertise on our website. I'm afraid that if we charge a subscription fee, no one would join because they could just use facebook or other websites."

"The 'dating' sector is very competitive, you will find that most new dating sites just funnel visitors or sign ups to the bigger sites for a commission. If you want to be successful as a new dating site you have to come up with something unique.Niche dating sites are still able to charge fairly high subscription fees, take a look at"

"I think advertising is generally the way to go, unless you want to add special memberships with frills that cost more than basic memberships. I like the idea of advertizing based on keywords in a member's profile. For example, if a person writes in her interests that she likes coffee, make it so that your website will generate Starbucks adverts when she logs in.I like your idea, btw."

"You should try the #1 dating site: . This site is launched by an international online dating network. They are very excellent in US, CA, UK, and other EU countries. Their AU section is also very popular."
little one replied:
"I recommend that you try DateAMate.com.au, its a new up and coming site which is based on MySpace, so if you want a maximum "experience" you can personalise your profiles and interact with your friends, write blogs etc. Their philosophy is that online dating doesn't just have to be about you sitting in front of your computer, but more something which you can do with your friends (even if they aren't single)- they can send you message to tell you to check out someone's profile because they think you will be well suited (or just the person is real hot!) and you can run people by them to. Of course you can use it as just a regular dating site as well if you don't want to involve your friends. There is no pay per contact system, and no limitations on how much you use the site - so its a bit friendlier than other sites in that respect. Because they are new, they are offering 200 life memberships for free (worth $150 each) so its a pretty good deal. You can check them out at - I would recommend you get in on this one as its gonna be the next big thing. There are a few out there to choose from, and success varies in terms of participation. Prices range from free (which often means that you will have to deal with heaps of ads) to moderate, to expensive (where you have to pay per contact per person). Good Luck!!"

"I joined an online dating service at the end of the first period they were to automatically withdrawl money from my account for the next 3 months of service. I sent a certified letter cancelling my subscrition. Two days later they electronically deposited money into my account. They had not withdrawn any for the service yet so I believe this was a mistake on their part. Do I have to contact them about this error? For how long can they comeback and just take this back out of my account? I do not believe they were refunding my original payment as I used the service for three months."

Root Worker replied:
"I would contact your bank first and let them know that this deposit was an error and that you wish to "officially" re-send this money to the Dating Service. The bank has some paperwork that needs to be filled out and signed by you in order for them to take care of it. Once you get this done, then you can call the Dating Customer Service and let them know what you did and you can also fax them the copy of the form that you signed from the bank. You wouldn't want them later to take this money from your account and with added fees. Good Luck."
Harold S replied:
"Try doing something which is ignored in todays society. Do what is right and tell the conpany they made a mistake. If you were on their side , wouldn't you want someone to tell you?"

"A group of us are beginning research into investing in an online dating service, say like a Facebook, that is truly FREE--no strings or come-ons, but we would sell ads, e.g., aspirational products would seem to be ideal to advertise on such sites; and if things work out, then make the ads fit the UserIs there already a site like this? It seems to me this would be a great idea"
