affordable insurance

The term health insurance is generally used to describe a form of insurance that pays for medical expenses. It is sometimes used more broadly to include insurance covering disability or long-term nursing or custodial care needs. It may be provided through a government-sponsored social insurance program, or from private insurance companies. It may be purchased on a group basis (e.g., by a firm to cover its employees) or purchased by individual consumers. In each case, the covered groups or individuals pay premiums or taxes to help protect themselves from high or unexpected healthcare expenses. Similar benefits paying for medical expenses may also be provided through social welfare programs funded by the government.

Health insurance works by estimating the overall risk of healthcare expenses and developing a routine finance structure (such as a monthly premium or annual tax) that will ensure that money is available to pay for the healthcare benefits specified in the insurance agreement. The benefit is administered by a central organization, most often either a government agency or a private or not-for-profit entity operating a health plan.

toms r asked: "I want to start a new job They will offer me and my family a great insurance plan expense freeThe only catch is that it will not take affect for 6 monthsThe present plan paid for by my employer willonly last for 30 days once I leave this jobDoes anyone know of a basic affordable health insurance planthat i can purchase for 5 monthsThank You"

mbrcatz17 replied: "You should be able to maintain the insurance from your former employer via COBRA for five months - at YOUR cost."
Darryl D replied: "I'm a health insurance agent in Cincinnati OH. You can purchase family coverage through your local Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance company. A few other companies to try...Humana, Continental General and Golden Rule. All of the above companies have web sites. Look them up on Yahoo and then call them for a free quote over the phone. Good luck to you! Darryl :)"
Rich replied: "Pay into COBRA while you shop around. I found that Aetna is the cheapest."
Kevin A replied: "There's no such thing sense the politicians got their grubby hands into the insurance game. I used to sell insurance many years ago."
wwwcosmeticlovercom replied: "find it there"
nurse ratchet replied: "If you current employer has 20 or more employees, you can continue your current health plan under the laws of COBRA. You will have to pay the total cost, though. However, if your family is healthy and has no medical issues, it will be a lot less expensive to purchase a short term medical plan for that 5 month period. An independent agent in your area can help you with that. There are several companies to choose from. Golden Rule's short term medical plan is very competitive in Oklahoma."
Brown_Eyed_Girl asked: "I know that no medical insurance is cheap, especially when you have to buy a personal policy not given thru your work. But, I have to get coverage for me and my husband. We just need basic insurance I guess....Like for medical and dentist visits. Have you found a more affordable insurance carrier? Or have any advice on what to look for in a new one? Thanks!"

Limbonia replied: "I found helpful. The site lets you compare price, benefits, and AM Best Rating of many insurance companies. The only time consuming part if you find a policy you like is filling out your medical history."
renne o asked: "I have a friend of mine who lives in Florida. He had open heart surgery a few years ago. After the surgery was done, the Dr walked in the room and told my friend he really never needed the surgery to begin with. He is trying to find health insurance and he is having trouble finding it because of his heart condition even though now he doesn't have one. Most of the health insurance companies want more then $1500 a month to insure him. How does he find affordable insurance in the US?"
Question posted courtesy of:
Heather replied: "if he's not had any heart problems for that long then by law the companies can not count that as pre-existing! according to the portability act they can't go back more than a year for pre-existing. have him call his local Blue cross blue shield of Florida and get a price quote. the only thing that can be pre-existing is care/treatment within the past year..."
Zarnev replied: "I beg to differ with Heather. The pre-existing clause in the portability act only refers to group policies. Individual policies will usually look back 5 - 10 years for surgeries and heart conditions. They can choose to decline you, rider the condtion for a period of time (1 year to permanent) or increase the premium, as you are finding out.You can try increasing the deductible. A higher deductible can result in a much lower premium. Your only other options would be Medicaid or a medical discount plan. Be very wary of these plans. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients."

Italian QT 312 asked: "Besides medicare, what are some cheap, affordable insurance plans in the hudson valley, ny?"
Question posted courtesy of:
mbrcatz17 replied: "Define cheap! Halfway decent coverage is going to run you about $200 a month, if you're 30 & healthy. The CHEAPEST way to get health insurance is to work for it - employers usually pick up a healthy chunk of the tab."
babycareonly replied: "depends upon ur age, ouse palns..."
BED replied: "OK, I have health benefits. Not the same as insurance but close and so much cheaper. I pay $50 a month for dental, vision, prescription, chiropractic, doctors, hospital, and ancillary services. So I love it. The website I signed up on is below. Check it out. Best of Luck."
DCSports replied: "None -- Insurance isn't cheap. If you can qualify, Medicare and Medicaid would be the cheapest. If children are involved, look into CHIP.Otherwise, shop around. Your best insurance option is probably going to be to get a high deductable, "catistrophic" coverage. (with a $5k or $10k deductable). That will cover you if the worst happens, and effectively give you their contracted rate on routine services. (You can then negotiate with some providers). UHC, Blue Cross, and Aetna are the major insurance companies, and have such policies. A local plan that accesses a major network (like UHC, PHCS, Beechstreet) may be a more affordable alternative. I would not recommend the health coverage (discount card) suggested above. It may be helpful for dental /vision. But most healthcare providers have absolutely no obligation to take them, and will not. Unlike insurance, these plans don't have a contract with the provider -- they are basically appealing to the good nature of the provider. You can actually negotiate a better rate yourself by just asking the provider, and telling them you are paying for the visit yourself. I know hospitals that give as much as a 40% discount to self pay patients. They want your business, and this is still a better rate than they pay to many insurance companies."

penpallermel replied: "Try your state insurance funds. They have some pretty good programs for people with low income that includes prenatal care."
nate replied: "BlueCross BlueSheild insurance is relatively inexpensive. May or may not be offered where you live."
bharat b replied: "If your GF is affordable, only then you'll be left with the money to spend for the insurance. There could be a chance? If you think you are sterile, you can happily spend the insurance funds."
Heather replied: "should she be pregnant there is a division of medicaid called pcap..the income restrictions are much higher than for general medicaid. It is to insure that pregnant women get appropriate medical care. go to a local clinic and ask them about medicaid for a pregnant women they will refer you or her to the process. The whole thing is relatively easy..they can also refer someone to WIC (Women Infant and Children) depending upon income she may be able to free formula and cereal for the baby"

Health insurance is very important, and it’s sad to say that there are many people that are not able to afford a decent health insurance plan.

Could Your Family Afford to Lose Your Income? Future moms have several options to protect their income from a long-term or short-term pregnancy disability.

Biden has tried to work in issues important to Florida during his campaigning here, most notably Obama's support for a national insurance backup fund to help make homeowners insurance more affordable and available. McCain opposes creating a fund, saying it shouldn't be a federal responsibility.

Nobody likes to think about their own mortality but having a life insurance policy can be enormously helpful to your family in the event of your untimely passing. If you have a spouse or children or anybody else depending on you for income and you were to pass away without an insurance policy it could change the lives of the people that depend on..

If one job doesn't pay the bills, work two jobs. If you want health insurance and don't believe you can afford it, disconnect the cable television, quit smoking and drinking, get rid of cell phones, don't eat at restaurants or go to the movies, sell your bling, get rid of your pets, etc.
