"Sales, marketing, and catering courses.It's great that you're taking these classes, but having that background is not necessarily going to help you get the job.Your looks, your poise, and your sales ability will help you get the job. Those courses will help you through the training though.After college you'll likely need another sales job before getting hired in pharma.I suggest you find a rep to talk to and ask them what they did. You might want to ask what they do as well. They know some big words, but it's not a technical job."

"I am trying to get into pharmaceutical sales and want to know the best way to do this. I have no direct experience in pharmaceutical sales however I do have 3 years of outside sales experience plus 15+ years of direct customer service. I have a BS in Social Science with a minor in Gerontology. I have medical terminology and had started out working on my nursing degree before changing majors. I have worked as an executive administrative assistant, accounting clerk and HR assistant up until the last three years and want a new career path. And before it is suggested that I have to be somewhat attractive, I modeled in high school and college. So with all of this said...Any suggestions or leads? Any and all help is greatly appreicated! "best bet is to know someone in the industry. see if you can ride along with a rep for a day (shows initiative). read the following book w/ regard to interviewing: "Knock 'em Dead" by Yates or Yeates. i say this because i was a nurse before i got into pharma sales - no sales experience whatsoever - and, after reading the book, THAT'S when i started getting asked back for 2nd and 3rd interviews. it takes persistence... i waited an entire year before someone took a chance on me (and me and my team blew our numbers out of the water... trip to paris... trip to rome... multiple cash awards). anyone can do this job; and one doesn't need to be attractive to do it (although, unfortunately, that's a criteria on which a lot of managers base their decision(s)). also, try monster.com. type in "sales" in the box, and look for or hi-lite pharmaceutical sales where you're given the option - you'll see what i'm talking about. many people choose to get on with a smaller company... prove themselves w/ regard to exceeding sales expectations... then jump to larger pharma companies.one last thing: if you can dispose of $200-300, try to get a professional resume writer to re-do your resume. mine added key words and that revision, along with reading the aforementioned book - helped a TON.good luck."

"While your pharmacy degree would be very useful, generally speaking CEO's are business people, and they are often very good at sales. An MBA is more frequently the educational path that future corporate executives take to the top. You need to understand business law, finance, sales and marketing. Will you be a licensed pharmacist with this degree?"

"We have just started an online bakery. We ship made from scratch pies and cheesecakes nation wide. I thaught it would be a good idea to market to pharmaceutical reps. They could purchase our goods and send them to their clients with a note from them. Any ideas?"

"Go to several doctor's offices and let the office staff sample your products. Leave PLENTY of business cards for the office staff to give to pharma reps. Ensure that the office staff knows the name of your business and will recommend your business for dessert trays (or whatever you have to offer). "Hey, Secretary Sally, we're a new bakery in town and wanted your office to know about our baked goods. We're located downtown off of fifth street and we deliver! If any of your pharmaceutical reps ever need dessert, let us know and we'll work with them! If you'd like to try anything else we make, let me know and I'll see what we can do! Thanks!" Something like that. Plus, hang around your local hospital or busy doctor offices and catch as many reps as you can when they visit the location... give them your business card... let them know whether or not you deliver ... tell them you want their business! Once you've established yourself, most reps don't mind paying a "delivery fee" on the final bill... maybe 3-4-5 bucks, depending on where you're taking the goods; and you can jack this up at a later date. Just don't get greedy. Most reps carry a corporate card w/ AmEx, so it does help if your business accepts AmEx. You might even consider catering some of your goods to local (larger) churches or civic groups. Good luck on your venture!!"
