"Well, you can take the train in China up to Beijing, then catch the TransSiberian Railroad in Beijing and take it to Moscow, Russia. From that point on, I'm not sure what railroad to take. Hope this helps a little!"
karlalizethromo replied:
"Why by train?. Is it cheaper considering the distance."

asked:
"A train has a mass of 3.2*10^6 kg. What steady breaking force must be applied to the wheels of the train to bring it to a stop in 12 mins if it is initially traveling at a speed of 60 km/hr? How far will it travel while it is stopping?I believe this is a frictionless problem...but I don't know where to being with this problem."

Rackbrane replied:
"Let:m be the mass of the train,a be its acceleration (negative for deceleration),s be the stopping distance,t be the stopping time,F be the braking force,u be the initial speed,v be the final speed.F = ma ...(1)v = u + at ...(2)60 km/hr = 60000 / 3600 = 50 / 3 m/s.12 min = 720 sec.Eliminating a from (1) and (2):F = m(v - u) / t= 3.2 * 10^6( 0 - 50 / 3) / 720= - 7.41 * 10^4 N to 3 sig. fig.F is negative as it is opposing the motion.s = t(u + v) / 2= 720(50 / 3 + 0) / 2= 6000 m."

"Note I am talking about train travel in the early west, not the present."

"Which decade in the late 1800's are you talking about? Steam locomotives in the early west were laughed at..and in one famous demonstration in about 1840 or so, a horse beat a steam locomotive in a race. But as the "decades" went by, the technology improved and the trains got faster. So a steam locomotive in the 1890's was a lot more powerful and faster than the one back in 1860's or 1870's , for instance. The average speed for steam locomotive in the late 1800's probably was around 25-30 mph +/- 10mph.(I'm guessing) Kansas city is about 250 miles away from St.Louis.So the trip should take about 8-10 hours. That's non-stop. Back in the day, trains make a lot of stops. That make the trip a lot longer."

"For your East African leg of the journey, you can travel by train from Mombasa to Nairobi in Kenya if you choose to cross over to Mombasa from Tanzania to check out the great beaches. The price is very reasonable, check out the prices in the link below:If you're travelling through Zimbabwe, there is a train from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls (on the border with Zambia) but bookings sometimes need to be made way in advance. Perhaps it's better to travel by bus from Joburg to Lusaka (Zambia's capital) then onto Tanzania. In Tanzania most buses aren't allowed to travel at night (in order to reduce the number of accidents) so you should factor that in.Apparently you don't need a visa for Kenya but to make sure you can call the embassy in Pretoria:+2712 362 2249.Don't forget about Malaria medication.Good Luck!!!"

We got up and got breakfast as usual in only a slight hurry. We needed to hurry and get to the train station so that we didn’t miss our train. We were going to take the bullet train from Beijing to Zhengzhou and then travel by bus from there through Dengfeng to the Tagou Academy.
